Torrington- John J. Lucas, Jr., 77, of 35 McGuinness Street, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Diane M. (Skarupa) Lucas. Mr. Lucas was born in Torrington on December 15, 1932, son of the late John J. Lucas, Sr. and Mary (Kozlak) Lucas and was a lifelong Torrington resident. He was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran and served in the Third Infantry Regiment. He served with honor and pride as part of the Presidential Honor Guard. Mr. Lucas was a retired Police Officer with the Torrington Police Department and served as a Court Liason Officer before his retirement in 1994, retiring with thirty-five years of service. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks, past president of the Eagles Club and was an avid NASCAR fan. Survivors in addition to his wife, Diane, include two sons, John J. Lucas, III and his wife Debbie, of New Hartford and Richard Lucas and his wife Lynn, of Alexandria, VA, a brother, James Lucas and his wife Leslie, of Harwinton, a brother-in-law, Ronald Skarupa and his wife Madeline, of Huntsville, AL, six grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and six nieces and nephews. Mr. Lucas was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Barbas and a sister, Janet Lucas. |
